Next Generation Week 3 – Day 2

Hearing God’s Voice from His Word

James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
Take a moment and turn your attention to God. Tell God that you desire to trust and obey Him. Ask God to speak to you from His word.

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 19:8-11 The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life;
the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right, making the heart glad;
the command of the Lord is radiant, making the eyes light up.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever;
the ordinances of the Lord are reliable and altogether righteous.
10 They are more desirable than gold—than an abundance of pure gold;
and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb.
11 In addition, your servant is warned by them, and in keeping them there is an abundant reward.
Read the Entire Psalm

Praise God for the gift of His word. He did not have to reveal himself to us through the bible but he has – take a moment and thank him. He did not have to instruct us or renew us through his word but he does – thank him for his instruction.

Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 – English Standard Version
4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Living as God’s People by applying the Bible

Scripture Reflection from the Sermon

The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Idols will ruin your life. They always have, they always will. Humans can make idols of anyone or anything. Our hearts are idol makers. Idols ruin lives because wrapping our hearts around anything other than the one true God is living outside our design parameters. Rocks don’t fall up, they fall down. Gravity exists. Hearts are ruined by idols. God exists. Today meditate on the one true God who has made everything. Imagine that the God you can talk to in prayer sees at this very moment galaxies spread out across unimaginable space. There are things out there in the created cosmos that our minds cannot comprehend. God has made these things. If what he has made is beyond human comprehension, what does that say of the one who made them? Fear Him. Be in awe of Him. Worship Him. The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
