Next Generation Devo – Day 5

Hearing God’s Voice from His Word

James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
Take a moment and turn your attention to God. Tell God that you desire to trust and obey Him. Ask God to speak to you from His word.

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 98:4-5
Let the whole earth shout to the Lord;
be jubilant, shout for joy, and sing.
5 Sing to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and melodious song.
6 With trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn
shout triumphantly
in the presence of the Lord, our King.

7 Let the sea and all that fills it,
the world and those who live in it, resound.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands;
let the mountains shout together for joy
9 before the Lord,
for he is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world righteously
and the peoples fairly.
Read the Entire Psalm

Sing and Shout – Why? One simple reason is because the LORD is worthy. He is and will always be the mighty one. His existence is reason for praise, but look at verse 9 we are given a reason to praise. Praise the Lord for he is coming to judge. He will judge righteously and fairly. Praise God because he is coming to judge. He is so good that does not ignore evil. He is so kind that he does not ignore your sin. He is fair. He is right. Praise Him alone, the righteous judge.

Having God’s Ear through Prayer

    • Express thanksgiving to God.
    • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal sin to you.
    • Confess your sin to Him and receive forgiveness.
      (1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sin He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins.”)
    • Bring your personal requests to God.
      (Psalm 62:8 “Pour out your heart before God”)
    • Pray for someone in your small group.

Living as God’s People by applying the Bible

Scripture Reflection from the Sermon

-Pray for the babies at River. Pray for their safety and that they would come to know Christ at an early age.
-Pray for the children at River. Pray they would be safe and would come to know Christ starting right now. Pray they would see the love of Christ through parents and others in our church.
-Pray for the youth at River. Pray they would rise above the cultural mess that surrounds them and embrace the truth of God in every single area of their lives. Pray they would be bold and live faithful lives in the face of the pressures that try to crush them. Pray they would step up as the next generation.
-Pray for the fatherless or parentless children and youth that our church family is loving in Jesus’s name. For foster children and for those who are being mentored through Youth Horizons. Pray they would come to Christ and someday God would use them to break generational cycles.
-Pray for yourself. How does God want you to bless the next generation?
