I. Prayer to enter the Lord’s presence:

Be still for a moment. “Lord, I give the day that is now past to you.  It is yours.  I give the day that is to come to you; help me to see where you are working and to join you there.  Speak to me during these moments.  I commit them and myself to you.”

 II. Prayer of Confession:

“Lord, you are faithful to forgive me and cleanse me of my sin when I confess it to you.  I confess my sin(s) of ______________.  Thank you for forgiveness.” (1 John 1:9)

III. Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Choose to be thankful, speak out loud of what God has done.
“Thank you, Father, for _________________.  Fill my heart and my mouth with gratitude throughout this day.”

IV. Scripture Reflection

Read

Psalm 15   A psalm of David.

Psa. 15:1   LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill?  2 He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart 3 and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman,  4 who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the LORD, who keeps his oath even when it hurts,  5 who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

Reflect

The blameless walk is not a walk of perfection but of life direction.  The same word was used by God to describe Job. “Then the LORD said to Satan, ‘Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.'”(Job 1:8) Of course we soon see that Job was not perfect but he was a man for whom the trajectory of his life was one of integrity.  He truly tried to honor God and do the right thing with his life. However this did not insulate Job from trouble. In fact Job had a lot of trouble in his life. So how does this jibe with the statement “he who does these things will never be shaken?” To “never be shaken” does not mean nothing bad will happen to them. It means they will be unshaken by all that happens to them in life but they will certainly be tested.  Unshaken means in the end they will “pass the test” because God will be with them because they will be with him. The events of life will not remove their purpose, their direction, their relationship with God.

Respond

What are the circumstances of your life that are or threaten to “shake you?”  How do these circumstances tempt you to turn from God or to lose confidence in him?  Or perhaps they tempt you to try on your own strength, without regard to God, to solve them.  Confess your need for God and your confidence in God again.

V. Prayer for others:

Pray specifically for the concerns of your life and the lives of others.

VI. Prayer of commitment:

Lord God, I commit to love you with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind and to love my neighbor as myself.  Empower me today to love you and others with everything that I am.”  (Luke 10:27)

This Month’s Scripture Memory:

Ephesians 6:14-18
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
