5.24.26 – Be Found Faithful
INTRO
This week’s sermon reminded us that God often changes the world through ordinary believers who quietly endure and remain faithful over time. Terry used stories from persecuted Christians in Romania, faithful pastors, missionaries, soldiers, workers, and everyday believers to show that the goal of the Christian life is not fame, comfort, or control—but faithfulness.
Paul wrote 2 Timothy from prison near the end of his life. Chained like a criminal, he still urged Timothy to remember Jesus, trust that God’s Word cannot be stopped, and endure with confidence that God will bring lasting fruit from faithful lives.
MAIN POINT: God calls us to keep our focus on Jesus, trust that His Word is never chained, and remain faithful knowing He will bring lasting fruit from enduring faithfulness.
SCRIPTURE-DRIVEN DISCUSSION
Begin by reading 2 Timothy 2:8–13 aloud together.
Take a few minutes and discuss anything that stood out to you from the passage or the sermon before moving into the application questions.
Additional references from the sermon include Colossians 3:2, Isaiah 26:3, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Deuteronomy 6:4–9, 1 Peter 4:12–16, Romans 6:6–8, Matthew 10:33, and John 15:5–6.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Q1: What does it practically look like to “remember Jesus” throughout everyday life?
Reminder: “Remembering Jesus is not passive—it is proactive training for faithfulness.”
- Why do you think Scripture repeatedly tells us to remember?
- What currently shapes your thoughts and attention the most?
- What are some practical ways you can keep Jesus “front and center” during normal routines this week?
Q2: How should Christians think about suffering, pressure, or opposition for their faith?
Reminder: “The Word of God is never chained, even if you are.”
- Have you ever experienced embarrassment, rejection, loss, or pressure because of your faith?
- Why is it important to focus on faithfulness instead of visible results?
- How does Paul’s example encourage you to endure without giving up?
Q3: What does faithful endurance look like in ordinary life?
Reminder: “Faithfulness is the only unblockable vision for your life.”
- Where are you most tempted to grow discouraged or passive right now?
- How does trusting God’s sovereignty help you keep going even when outcomes feel uncertain?
- What would it look like for you to focus less on success and more on simply being found faithful?
Q4: How do we live with both confidence and humility in the Christian life?
Reminder: “No self-confidence…only confidence in Christ.”
- Why is there a difference between confidence in yourself and confidence in Christ?
- How do the warnings in this passage keep us from becoming spiritually careless or presumptuous?
- What helps you remain close to Jesus instead of drifting into self-reliance?
LET’S REMEMBER:
God has not called us to control outcomes, fix everything, or guarantee success. He has called us to be faithful. As we remember Jesus, trust His unchained Word, and endure in obedience, God promises that our labor in Him is never wasted. Faithfulness may seem ordinary day by day, but God uses enduring faithfulness to produce eternal fruit.
Since what we’ve discussed is true and relevant, what is one specific area this week where you need to stop measuring success by visible results and instead pursue simple faithfulness? For example, maybe it means continuing to pray for someone, staying faithful in a difficult job, loving your family well, or continuing to obey God even when no one notices.
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness to us through Jesus Christ. Help us remember You daily and keep our minds fixed on what is true and eternal. Strengthen us to endure hardship, resist fear, and remain faithful in both ordinary and difficult moments. Teach us to trust that Your Word is never chained and that our labor in You is never wasted. Help us be found faithful. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
