2.15.26 – The Church: A Hidden Glory
INTRO
In 1 Timothy 3:14–16, Paul explains why he is writing — so that the church will know how to conduct itself as God’s household. This passage is not about buildings or programs; it is about identity.
Terry walked us through four realities in this text: the church is the family of God, the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth — and at the center of it all is the revealed mystery of Christ. How we live together flows from who we are and from the gospel we confess.
MAIN POINT: The church is the family of the living God, and the gospel of Christ grounds both our conduct and our unity.

APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Q1: Q1: If the church is truly God’s household, how should that change the way you show up and invest in it? (1 Timothy 3:15a; Philippians 2:3–5)
Reminder: Paul says this is God’s household. Family isn’t optional—you show up, you participate, and you build trust over time.
– Where are you tempted to treat church like an event instead of a family?
– How are you building real relationships across personality and generational differences?
– What would it look like to take more ownership in this household?
Q2: Do you truly believe we are the church of the living God—and does the way you gather, engage, and participate reflect that?
(1 Timothy 3:15b; 1 Corinthians 1:27–29)
Reminder: Jesus is alive. When the church gathers, something eternal is happening—even if it looks ordinary.
– How would that belief change the way you gather and participate?
– Where have you seen God work through the gathered church?
Q3: If the church is the pillar and foundation of the truth, what is currently shaping your understanding of truth? (1 Timothy 3:15c)
Reminder: The church did not create truth—the truth created the church. Unity depends on shared submission to God’s revealed Word.
– Where are you tempted to live on your own terms instead of submitting to God’s revealed truth?
– How does shared commitment to biblical truth protect unity?
– What happens when truth is softened for comfort?
Q4: If the revealed mystery of Christ (v. 16) truly grounds our behavior and our unity, what should change in your life this week? (1 Timothy 3:16; Acts 1:11)
Reminder: Christ was manifested, vindicated, proclaimed, believed on, and taken up in glory. The gospel is not just something we confess—it shapes how we live together.
– Which phrase in verse 16 strengthens your faith most right now?
– Where does the gospel need to move from something you believe to something you practice?
LET’S REMEMBER:
The church may look ordinary, but it carries eternal glory. We are God’s household—the church of the living God and the pillar of the truth. At the center is the revealed mystery of Christ—incarnate, risen, and reigning in glory. This gospel does not just shape what we believe; it shapes how we live and how we love one another. If we insist on “me,” we will never become “we.” But when we submit to Christ and his truth, we become a family that reveals his life to the world.
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, thank you for placing us in your household. Help us love as family, stand firmly on your truth, and live in a way that reflects Christ. May his life be revealed in us together. Amen.
