INTRO:
Terry reminded us that life is not about living “for the moment” but “in the moment with eternity in view”. To live faithfully for the long haul, we need God’s Word, God’s Spirit, and God’s people. Small groups are one of the primary ways God provides encouragement and accountability so that we don’t lose heart or drift away.
MAIN POINT: Small groups are God’s provision to help us live faithfully for the long haul.
SCRIPTURE-DRIVEN DISCUSSION:
Have someone read aloud Hebrews 3:12–13 and Galatians 6:9–10 together.
Take a moment afterward for open reflection—what stands out to you from these verses?
Additional references from the sermon included: Proverbs 6:6–11; Proverbs 24:27; Psalm 90:12; Joshua 24:15; and Acts 2:42–47.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
This week Terry mentioned some of the common “excuses” people give for not being in a small group. Since we are in groups, let’s turn those into opportunities to share how God has used our groups to be the opposite of those excuses.
Q1: “Because…” Some say, “I don’t feel the need,” or “I don’t have time.”
Reminder: Terry said small groups are essential for long-term growing and thriving.
– How has being in a group actually met a need in your life?
– Can you share a time when God used your group to help you thrive spiritually?
Q2: “But…” Some say, “I’m in a group, but I don’t see results.”
Reminder: Terry encouraged us that a continual harvest requires continual sowing of seeds.
– How have you seen growth over time, even if it wasn’t immediate?
– What helps you keep showing up when results aren’t obvious?
Q3: “And…” Some say, “I’m in a group and I see God at work.”
Reminder: Terry told us to “hunt the good stuff” and talk about it often.
– What is a recent story of God’s goodness in your group that encouraged you?
– How can sharing these stories build vision for others?
