7.28.25 – Isaiah 59–66: Sorrow, Beauty, and Glory
Key Verse for 2025: “Watch your life and doctrine closely.” – 1 Timothy 4:16
INTRODUCTION
This week, Trace walked us through Isaiah 59–66. These chapters show us the sorrow of sin, the beauty of salvation, and the glory of God’s Redeemer. Trace reminded us that this Redeemer is Jesus—the One who fulfills God’s promises and gives us lasting hope. God sees our brokenness, promises redemption, and sends His Redeemer. We now live in the tension of the “already” (Christ has come) and the “not yet” (we await the new heavens and new earth).
MAIN POINT: In Jesus, the sorrow of sin and the beauty of salvation meet in the glory of our Redeemer, who brings lasting hope to all who trust Him.
SCRIPTURE-DRIVEN DISCUSSION
Have your group read these key passages aloud:
– Isaiah 59:1–2, 15–16 (Sin separates us from God, yet He takes the initiative.)
– Isaiah 61:1–3, 11 (The Anointed One brings good news and transforms His people.)
– Isaiah 62:2–5 (God delights in His redeemed people.)
– Isaiah 65:17–25 (A vision of the new heavens and new earth.)
– Isaiah 66:18–24 (God’s glory revealed to all nations.)
Other passages Trace referenced in the sermon include Romans 3, Galatians 3:10–14, Luke 4:16–21, John 20:28, and 2 Corinthians 4:17.
Note: Let’s pause and talk about these passages together. What grabbed your heart or mind as we read? Did anything Trace said on Sunday come to mind? How do these words about Jesus and God’s future promises encourage or challenge you?
APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Our discussion will follow these three themes from the sermon: The Sorrow of Sin, The Beauty of Salvation, and The Glory of God’s Redeemer.
Q1: The Sorrow of Sin – Where do you see the reality of sin—in your life or in the world around you? How does recognizing sin’s depth help you better understand your need for God?
Reminder: Isaiah confessed, “We have all become like one who is unclean” (64:6). Trace said the sorrow of sin is universal and insurmountable on our own.
Q2: The Beauty of Salvation – How have you experienced the beauty of Jesus’ salvation in your life? How does knowing Jesus as the Redeemer reshape how you live today?
Reminder: In Luke 4, Jesus read Isaiah 61 and said, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
Q3: The Glory of God’s Redeemer – When you think about Isaiah’s picture of the new heavens and new earth (65:17–25), what gives you hope? How does that future vision strengthen your faith right now?
Reminder: Trace said, “Not forever will it be this way… beauty will rise up and swallow sorrow.”
LET’S REMEMBER
God has not left us in sorrow. In Jesus, the Anointed Redeemer, God binds up the brokenhearted, sets captives free, and promises a future where beauty swallows sorrow forever.
PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE
We’ve seen how Jesus, the Redeemer, meets us in our sorrow and brings us into the beauty of His salvation. How will you live this out this week? Be specific. What step can you take—in your home, work, or relationships—to live like someone redeemed and share this hope with others?
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, thank You for seeing us in our sorrow and sending Jesus, our Redeemer. Help us to live in the beauty of Your salvation, to hold fast to the hope of the new creation, and to share Your glory with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
