The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.
Read God’s Word:
1 Kings 10-11, 2 Chronicles 9, Proverbs 30-31
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 5: Kings and Prophets: God shapes a kingdom people
Background Information: 1 Kings 10-11, 2 Chronicles 9, Proverbs 30-31
“Blessed be the Lord your God! He delighted in you and put you on the throne of Israel, because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel. He has made you king to carry out justice and righteousness.”
1 Kings 10:9
“Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.”
1 Kings 11:6
God gave Solomon wisdom, wealth, and the privilege of leadership. Solomon threw away the gifts and grace of God for his own pleasure. What happened to Solomon? How could a man of such enormous wisdom act so foolishly? Let’s ask an older Solomon that question: “Solomon, what happened to you? Why did you trade so much for so little?”
“Well,” says Solomon, “Do you see a person who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”(Proverbs 26:12). “I did not see my wisdom as a privilege and responsibility; instead, I began to see it as mine, and I made all of life about me. I became a fool.”
The continuing refrain for Israel’s kings will be, “They did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.”All is a gift from God. All gifts from God are to be enjoyed by living for his glory and the good of others. All gifts from God turn to curses when we make them about ourselves. Give God thanks for all he has given you. Seek to use every breath, every moment, every gift, for the glory of God.
“For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it. “
1 Corinthians 4:7
