The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.
Read God’s Word:
Psalms 108-109
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 5: Kings and Prophets: God shapes a kingdom people
Background Information: Psalms 108-109
We cry out to God for the victory of good over evil. We long for justice in a world where it seems that injustice often goes unpunished. If you watch a movie where evil men prosper and harm the innocent, you know that in the end of the show these men will suffer for their deeds. If this didn’t happen, the movie would not become popular because it would be unsatisfying; a need for justice is built into us.
We ask God to give us victory over those who attack us. We want the unjust to pay for the harm they have done, but imagine if you were counted among those who are not just? What if every single deed and attitude of our lives were measured against God’s perfect justice? When have we judged others harshly and unfairly? When have we failed to give to others mercy or kindness, or to consider their needs above our own? We would all be under the curse if our deeds were measured on the perfect scale of divine justice. Cry out to God for victory in the troubles of your life. It is right to plead with God to bring justice to those who are suffering injustice. Then, remember, to give thanks that because of Christ, God will not count your sins against you. If you have trusted Christ, you will not be judged by your deeds (or by your lack of them). Righteous anger at injustice is a good and helpful thing, but make sure it is tempered by the humility of one who has been saved by grace, not by your own good deeds.
