The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Scene 5: Kings and Prophets: God shapes a kingdom people
Background Information: Psalms 15, 23, 24-25, 47
We recall the awesome holiness of Mount Sinai where Moses encountered God’s presence, received the law, and Israel was forbidden to touch it upon threat of death. We read of how an inadvertent touch of the Ark, the centerpiece of the Tent of the Lord’s presence, brought death. Who can possibly have relationship with this God; who can live in his presence? The answer is given: the one who does what God wants. The one who practices truth from the heart. This very same God of awesome power will be our shepherd, leading us by still waters. He will be our friend, preparing us a meal after vanquishing those who oppose us. This shepherd and friend is the King of heaven and earth; all things are made by him and for him. David wrote these psalms as the king, who served THE King. He longed for the presence and corresponding peace of God’s presence. He longed for a life of peace, free from constant conflict. He would experience the presence of God, and judgment for his sins, but he would not experience lasting peace in his earthly life. What he longed for, he would only get brief glimpses of. What he longed for, he would experience in full only after his life as an earthly king was over, and he entered the presence of the King of heaven and earth. His story is our story. We are not kings, but what we most long for, we will receive only partly in this life but in full in the life to come. The Lord is your shepherd and friend. You can experience him as such in significant ways today, but in full ways in a day yet to come.
