The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.
Read God’s Word:
Psalm 35, 54, 63, 18
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 5: Kings and Prophets: God shapes a kingdom people
Background Information: Psalm 35, 54, 63, 18
To be betrayed by men of his own tribe was especially painful and disorienting for David (1 Sam. 26). The Ziphites, like David, were from the Tribe of Judah. It’s not that he knew these people personally, but rather that they were family. How could family turn against him? We sometimes feel the same way when other Christians do or say something that hurts us. We are not to pray for their destruction, but we can still pray for justice. Justice in the New Covenant would be for them to repent and to receive the forgiveness that is offered in the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. He bore our punishment; God’s justice is satisfied in him. How is it possible to keep this perspective when people hurt us? We must do as David did. Instead of contemplating our hurt and anger, we meditate on the love of Christ in the “night watches” (Psalm 63:6). We must train our minds to rejoice in his closeness to us and not on the slights of those who offend us.
Pray:
Praise God for…
Thank God for…
Confess your sins to God
