The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Background Information: Psalm 56, 120, 140-142
Twice David makes this confession of faith, “In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (56:4, 56:11) David is preaching truth to himself. We must do the same. Proverbs 29:25 says, “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord will be kept safe.” Does this mean that if we trust God we will not suffer, or be harmed, or die? Obviously not; the biblical record is full of evidence otherwise, most notably, the Lord Jesus himself. What does it mean if not that? It means that in every aspect of life, and through death itself, we are ultimately “safe.” Death itself cannot win in our lives, let alone some person who means us harm. In Psalm 120 we read of a person who feels utterly isolated and alienated. He says he lives in Meshach and Kedar. The problem is, Meshach is modern day Turkey and Kedar is modern day Saudi Arabia. He couldn’t possible live in both places. The point of using these extremes to describe his feelings is like someone saying, “I feel like I am from another planet sometimes.” He is surrounded by enemies, people who don’t share his faith or values. As Christians we often feel that way. When we go to work, hear the world news, or sit in classrooms we often feel like we are living in Meshach and Kedar, surrounded by lying lips and people who hate peace. We are, Peter writes, “strangers and aliens” here in this world. This world is not our final home.
