Week 7: Day 5: Leviticus 5-7

By February 14, 2025Daily Devotional

The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Read God’s Word:

Leviticus 5-7
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 3: The Sinai Covenant and law: God embraces and instructs his people

Background Information: Leviticus 5-7

Leviticus has 5 main types of ritual sacrifices.  These sacrifices communicate God’s grace and his justice.  Some are voluntary and say “thanks” to God for his grace.  Some are mandatory and say “sorry” to God, asking for forgiveness since he is a just God.

A burnt offering voluntarily signifies the forgiveness of sin and complete devotion to God.

A grain offering voluntarily signifies thanksgiving for the coming of the harvest.

A fellowship or peace offering includes a “Thank offering” which signifies thankfulness for a specific blessing, a “Vow offering” which represents a vow that has been made, and a “Freewill offering” which signifies general thanksgiving.

A sin offering is mandatory for anyone who has sinned unintentionally or is ritually unclean.

A guilt offering is mandatory for anyone who has deprived another person of their rights or has desecrated something holy.

Thankfully we do not need to offer these sacrifices anymore, but we should continually offer thanksgiving to God for his grace and forgiveness.  It would be good to build into our lives ways to keep his grace and justice continually in the front of our minds.

Pray:

Praise God for…
Thank God for…
Confess your sins to God
Give thanks for God for the peace and protection that we enjoy in our church. Ask him to continue to bless us with peace within our church community.
Ask God for… (what else concerns you?)

Reflect:

Write down one passage of scripture that stood out to you today.
Write down why this passage stood out to you.

Engage Community:

Text or call someone now and tell them…
 – What you are praying for.
 – What stood out from God’s word today.
