Week 7: Day 3: Exodus 37-40

By February 12, 2025Daily Devotional

The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Read God’s Word:

Exodus 37-40
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 3: The Sinai Covenant and law: God embraces and instructs his people

Background Information: Exodus 37-40

This section gives the actual order of how the Tabernacle was constructed; it’s not just repetition of earlier material. God provided Egyptian gold and other precious metals and jewels as the people left their slavery. These were redeemed from their former use as idols and mere vanity to be used in worship to the one true God. It was all so costly and done so carefully.  What do you think when you see something done with excellence and attention to detail?  A home, a business, or an event for instance?  You think, “These people are serious about this, they care.” What do you think when this excellence and attention to detail is absent?  All this detail was designed to ensure that the reality of God shaped every aspect of their lives. What distinguished Israel from the other nations was just not the laws and objects, but what these pointed them to. It was God’s presence with them that set them apart. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us.  There are things we do as God’s people, but what we do is to foster who we are: we are God’s people through faith in God’s Son. The book ends with the presence of God descending on the Tabernacle, but even Moses can’t go in; the place is too holy even for him. What can be done to provide a way into the holy presence of God? The next book will answer that question.
