Week 7: Day 2: Exodus 33-36

By February 11, 2025Daily Devotional

The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Read God’s Word:

Exodus 33-36
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 3: The Sinai Covenant and law: God embraces and instructs his people

Background Information: Exodus 33-36

Moses, in his role as priest, intercedes on behalf of the people. What distinguishes Israel from all the other people on earth will not be their rituals and laws, but that God himself will go with them. The laws were to serve the purpose of setting God’s people apart so that they can have this kind of relationship with God.  The law, as we know, will prove to be inadequate because of the sin of the people. Moses encounters a physical manifestation of God and learns of his character. God is merciful and he is good, so he cannot leave evil unpunished. The making of the Tabernacle is allowed to proceed. God’s presence will travel with Israel, but how can a sinful people live in the presence of a Holy God? The answer to this question will unfold all the way to the New Testament.

Paul wrote this:

“Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory?”

2 Corinthians 3:7,8

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit”

2 Corinthians 3:18

We can go directly to God’s presence because of the sacrifice of Jesus. We are being transformed day by day into the image of Christ through the work of the Spirit.
