The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.
Read God’s Word:
Exodus 29-32
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 3: The Sinai Covenant and law: God embraces and instructs his people
Background Information: Exodus 29-32
As you read chapters twenty-nine to thirty-one you may begin to wonder why God gave so many detailed instructions on how to deal with their sin. Then you get to chapter thirty-two, and you will wonder no more. This chapter is shocking. “Who is this Moses?” they asked. “This is your God who saved you” they cried. Joshua said to Moses, “It sounds like a war down there.” It was a war- a spiritual one. Aaron failed miserably as a stand-in leader for Moses. Look at his ridiculous claim: “I threw gold in the fire, out came this calf.” Moses interceded on behalf of the people, and God did not destroy them. Moses offered himself in their place. We again see the echoes of Jesus in Exodus. Remember, these people were only recently a slave people, and they easily resorted back to a slave’s mentality. Paul wrote a warning for Christians: “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1) When our lives become difficult, we must remember grace and never think our former life of slavery to sin was good.
