Week 6: Day 5: Exodus 22-24

By February 7, 2025Daily Devotional

The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Read God’s Word:

Exodus 22-24
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 3: The Sinai Covenant and law: God embraces and instructs his people

Background Information: Exodus 22-24

People tend to think that Moses received the Ten Commandments, and that’s it. The Ten Commandments were the foundation of the relationship between God’s people and God, but they were given more than these. In fact, God gave the entire law to Israel; it was a Theocracy. God was their King; he was the lawgiver. The law God gave set them apart from other nations, were just, and were designed for their overall thriving; physically, relationally, and spiritually. Notice God built in celebrations and rest; his laws are in line with his design for us. In 24:8, Moses says, “This is the blood of the covenant.” Christ will apply these words to himself at the last supper. “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28) Christ is both the mediator of the covenant (the new and greater Moses), as well as the sacrifice that sealed the covenant.
