The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.
Read God’s Word:
Exodus 1-4
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 2: Deliverance: God rescues his people.
Background Information: Exodus 1-4
Exodus is the continuation of God’s story; he is in control, and he is working out his purposes as Israel was fruitful, multiplied, and filled the land. The king’s attempt at genocide was thwarted by God using some faithful midwives. The two mentioned were either in charge of the larger number of midwives or they are the ones whose names were remembered, and they represent the larger group. Moses’ mom didn’t just cast him out into the current of the Nile, but she strategically placed him in calm water in a place where he would be seen. She not only saw God save her son, but she was paid to raise him. Moses, like Job, felt fear in the presence of God’s self-revelation. God told Moses of his call on his life, but Moses was resolute in focusing solely on his own inadequacy. On the way back to Egypt, Moses almost died because he had failed to perform the act of covenant loyalty; he had not circumcised his son. Perhaps Moses became deathly ill, his wife recognized the cause was disobedience, and he applied the remedy of obedience. Too much was at stake for Moses to go into this great task in a state of rebellion. God is working out his purposes over the centuries at an international level, and yet his grand purposes are always experienced in the normal day to day details of our lives.
