The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Job 37:1 – 40:5, Psalm 19
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 1: The People: God calls a covenant people
Background Information: Job 37:1 – 40:5, Psalm 19
Elihu has been misguided in some of his speech. Not all of what he says is wrong, but it has often been wrongly timed and applied. His elegant description of God’s providence in the natural world is beautiful and inspiring. In the modern world people look at nature and see nothing but purposeless cause and effect. The Biblical world view sees God’s hand overseeing all of the cosmos he has made. This is not because God is petty and micromanages the world. It is because he is so great that to oversee all of its function is effortless for him. God finally speaks for himself. Elihu’s view of the natural world now pales in comparison to God’s firsthand account of his oversight of the cosmos, down to the very smallest of details. God is telling Job that what he does is infinitely more complex than Job can imagine. Man observes just a small part of the natural world, but God actually designed and oversees it. Psalm 19 describes God’s speech. He speaks in general revelation through what he has made, and he speaks in special revelation in his word. God is there and he is not silent; he has spoken to us. He tells us what is actually true, not what we want to be true. Job has what he demanded. God is speaking to him, but what God says is very different than what Job expected to hear.
