Week 4: Day 6: Job 22-24

By January 25, 2025Daily Devotional

The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Read God’s Word:

Job 22-24
Act 2: God’s Covenant People
Scene 1: The People: God calls a covenant people

Background Information: Job 22-24

Eliphaz is blatant in calling Job a sinner.  This is not so much because he is judging Job as it is he believes he is defending God. He passionately urges Job to repent and return to God.  The only problem is, Job has never left God. Eliphaz applies the right solution to the wrong problem.  Yes God will rescue the repentant sinner, but that is not what is going on here.  Job knows he is not sinless, but he did seek to repent and stay right with God.  This is why his suffering is so confusing.  He knows that his suffering is not punishment, but rather a test.  This doesn’t answer the question of “why?”  Why is God testing him so severely?  He would like to have the chance to question God face to face; this is how sure he is of the legitimacy of his case.  Job gives a list of sins deserving judgment.  He is not doubting that God is the rightful judge or that there are sinners who deserve judgment.  However, he is convinced that this is not the case for him.
