The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.

Act 1: God’s Plan for All People
Scene 3: The Flood: God judges and makes a covenant to preserve life
Background Information: Genesis 8-9 & Psalm 12
In the New Testament, Peter writes of how the salvation of Noah’s family pointed forward to the salvation that is in Christ (1 Peter 3:18-21). In both cases God saves those who trust in him, and those who do not trust him remain under his judgment. The ark of Noah prefigures the Lord Jesus. In addition, Jesus said that the flood story pointed forward to his second coming. (Matthew 24:37-39) Just as people were living their lives as normal and caught unaware and unprepared when the flood came, so will it be when Jesus returns. The covenant of Noah was confirmed with the sign of a rainbow. When it is said that God will see the rainbow and “remember,” it doesn’t mean that he can forget. The words are used to provide comfort to humans who see the rainbow and know that God will keep his word. Rainbows can occur without storms, but they are most spectacular when dark storm clouds provide the backdrop. When Noah emerged from the ark, he was saved from the flood, but his sin remained. Immediately in the storyline we find sin at work in his family. They were still sinners in need of a savior. When you see a rainbow, do you remember the covenant promises of God? It should remind you not just of the covenant God made with Noah, but also of the New Covenant in Christ. Christ alone can save us from our sin.
