The resources God has given us to live a thriving life are His Word, Spirit, and People.
Read God’s Word:
Genesis 6-7
Act 1: God’s Plan for All People
Scene 3: The Flood: God judges and makes a covenant to preserve life
Background Information: Genesis 6-7
The main story line of chapter six is that evil had reached its peak. No one is sure what was happening when the “Sons of God took wives for themselves.” Possibly it was demonic interactions with humans, but whatever the case things had become very, very dark. When God is said to have regretted that he had made man, it does not indicate that God made a mistake or had changed his mind. This is the use of normal human terms to describe God’s approach to the world. He was going to respond in dramatic fashion to man’s fatal descent into evil. In all this catastrophic evil, one man found favor in the eyes of God: Noah. God made a covenant with Noah. A covenant is a binding agreement between two parties. This was the first of several covenants that would culminate in the New Covenant of the Lord Jesus. We often look at the evil around us and think, “It has never been worse.” This is not true; there has always been great evil in the world. What we must focus on is our own lives. We must be like Moses in dark times. He was a righteous man in the face of darkness. However, as we will soon see, Moses was not perfect. He too was a man in need of a savior.
