Hearing God’s Voice from His Word
James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
Take a moment and turn your attention to God. Tell God that you desire to trust and obey Him. Ask God to speak to you from His word.

If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. Having God’s Ear through Prayer
- Give thanks to God for His gifts and His goodness.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal sin to you.
- Confess your sin to Him and receive forgiveness.
(1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sin He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins.”) - Bring your personal requests to God.
(Psalm 62:8 “Pour out your heart before God”) - Pray for someone in your small group.
- Join with others from River and pray for refugees and your Muslim neighbors living in Wichita. Pray that the truth of the gospel would be revealed to these people.

Scripture Reflection from the Sermon
“Show us the Father and that will be enough.” This is true whether we feel like it is or not. Read CS Lewis’ famous quote below and give it some thought. Perhaps you would be helped to read it out loud.
It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

You are made by God and for God. The desire that you have for meaning and significance is a signpost pointing to this fact. The fact that we are so easily swayed by lesser things than the glory of God is a sign that we are still like ignorant children. Ask God to mature your heart. Ask him to help you more fully know that to experience him is our highest good.
