Hearing God’s Voice from His Word
James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
Take a moment and turn your attention to God. Tell God that you desire to trust and obey Him. Ask God to speak to you from His word.
Psalm of the Day
Psalm 98:1-3 Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
2 The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God. Read the entire Psalm
Praise God because he reveals himself. This Psalm reminds us that he has made his salvation known. We can know God because he has revealed himself.

John 13:18-38 – English Standard Version
18 I am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. But the Scripture will be fulfilled, ‘He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.’ 19 I am telling you this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
21 After saying these things, Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. 23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side, 24 so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking. 25 So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus answered, “It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Having God’s Ear through Prayer
- Give thanks to God for His gifts and His goodness.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal sin to you.
- Confess your sin to Him and receive forgiveness.
(1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sin He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins.”) - Bring your personal requests to God.
(Psalm 62:8 “Pour out your heart before God”) - Pray for someone in your small group.

Scripture Reflection from the Sermon
How are you demanding that God make the “not yet” into the fully “already?” Take stock of your life for a few moments. Look at your internal world of thoughts and your external world of actions. What are you demanding that God make perfect right now? How are you dealing with others in ways that are really just demands that they comply with what you want or need from them? How is your standard regarding others something you yourself could not possible achieve? The tension of the “already/not yet” is difficult, but we must not let that tension make us even more foolish. We become more foolish when we try to eliminate the tension by angrily demanding that God and others do what we think they should do. The way to live in the tension is to live with trust and gratitude. We must train ourselves to trust God in the mess that is the world as it is. We must train ourselves to live with gratitude for all that God gives us and all that he allows to come to us. We must train ourselves to trust God that someday all will be made right. We must train ourselves to have gratitude for what God has promised that is yet to be fully realized.
