DG John 13
1. If I believe I have agency (the ability to take action), then I have hope. If I have hope, I am more likely to act. If I take consistent action, then I will experience change.
-People often feel hopeless because they believe their choices won’t matter.
-People often don’t experience change because they fail to take consistent action.
Take some time now to write down all of the left column factors (things you cannot control) and also the right column factors (things you can control) related to an important issue in your life. (You can use a full sheet of paper; the image below is just for the sake of example)

2. Talk about the importance of understanding left and right column issues. (How are they different? When is it difficult to know what goes in each column? How it is helpful to talk it through with others?, etc.)
3. Pray about both columns right now.
4. Read Philippians 2:3-8. What does it mean to have the “mind of Christ”?
5. Read John 13:1-17. What stands out to you in that passage?
6. What have you developed a “mind of”? (An academic field, a technical skill, a hobby, etc.)
How did that happen? What were the factors?
7. What needs to happen in your life in order for you to more consistently have the mind of Christ in a way that shapes your life into the image of Christ? Please be specific and practical.
8. What makes you happy? (Hint: It’s not selfishness). Why do we keep trying to find happiness in selfishness? Why doesn’t it work? How will doing the work of having the mind of Christ help us become “happier”?
