2 Timothy 3:16-17 Devotional – Day 2

Hearing God’s Voice from His Word

James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
Take a moment and turn your attention to God. Tell God that you desire to trust and obey Him. Ask God to speak to you from His word.

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 148:1-4 Praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.
Read the entire Psalm

Praise the Lord. It is a command and not a suggestion for us. He is worthy of praise. Everything – heavens, seas, stars, angels, everything was made for Him. You were created for Him. Praising Him reminds us that He is supreme. Take a moment and praise Him for all that He has made.

Scripture Reading
2 Timothy 3:1-6, 10-17 – English Standard Version
Godlessness in the Last Days

3 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions,

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God
10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, 11 my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra—which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Living as God’s People by applying the Bible

Scripture Reflection from the Sermon

Today, let’s focus on the word “inspired.” It literally means “God-breathed.” This word describes how the Spirit of God worked through the biblical writers to write God’s Word entirely and exactly as He intended so that what the writers wrote was the very Word of God. Scripture alone is our final authority by which we know God, ourselves, and the world, and by which we preach, teach, command, warn, and exhort the church and all people, because Scripture is God’s word. The Bible is unlike any other book in the world. Other books may contain truth, wisdom, and help, but only one book includes the Word of God Himself, and that is the Bible. In matters of truth, doctrine, life, and morality, the Bible alone is our final authority. With this in mind, thank God for speaking to us, for giving us His word as a guide and a light to navigate life.
