Nurturing Confidence Devotional – Day 5

By September 2, 2022Daily Devotional

ADORATION – Reflect on God’s Greatness

GOD IS TRUE The God revealed in Scripture is real, and all other gods are idols. The God of the Bible is the one true God and not a god among others. He is the one and only.

Jeremiah 10:10–11 – The Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. . . . The gods who did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under the heavens.

John 17:3 Jesus says to the Father, “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”

Praise God that He is the Only True God.
Praise God that His power is unmatched. Praise God that He is not one of many gods to choose from. Praise God that He has made Himself known and revealed His uniqueness in the bible.

CONFESSION: Confess your sins to God and receive his continued mercy.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

THANKSGIVING: Giving thanks to God for his specific blessings in our lives.

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100

SUPPLICATION: Bringing our requests to God.

  • Bring your personal prayer requests to God.
  • Pray for those in our church who are sick. Ask God to heal their bodies. Pray for their families and care-takers. Ask God to encourage them and give them endurance.

SCRIPTURE READING:
Deuteronomy 6:1-9, 20-25
Christian Standard Bible
The Greatest Command

6 “This is the command—the statutes and ordinances—the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, so that you may follow them in the land you are about to enter and possess. 2 Do this so that you may fear the Lord your God all the days of your life by keeping all his statutes and commands I am giving you, your son, and your grandson, and so that you may have a long life. 3 Listen, Israel, and be careful to follow them, so that you may prosper and multiply greatly, because the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has promised you a land flowing with milk and honey.

4 “Listen, Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. 7 Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your city gates.

20 “When your son asks you in the future, ‘What is the meaning of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God has commanded you?’ 21 tell him, ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand. 22 Before our eyes the Lord inflicted great and devastating signs and wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on all his household, 23 but he brought us from there in order to lead us in and give us the land that he swore to our ancestors. 24 The Lord commanded us to follow all these statutes and to fear the Lord our God for our prosperity always and for our preservation, as it is today. 25 Righteousness will be ours if we are careful to follow every one of these commands before the Lord our God, as he has commanded us.’

Colossians 1:28-29
28 We proclaim him, warning and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 I labor for this, striving with his strength that works powerfully in me.

Ephesians 4:15
15 But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head—Christ.

1 Timothy 3:15
15 But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION:
Throughout church history, there have been many theologians who have produced a lot of content but were devoid of character. True knowledge of God leads to love, service, and humility. When content is severed from character, the result is arrogance, pride, and widespread destruction. Pride will drag the soul down to destruction. Truth applied through love and service is the true measure of maturity. Jesus did not say that they would know we are his disciples by our knowledge of systematic theology. He said they will know we are his disciples if we have love for one another (John 13:35). Choose today – die to self. Take on the mindset of Christ and count others more significant than yourself. Choose to apply truth through love and service.
