I. Prayer to enter the Lord’s presence:

Be still for a moment. “Lord, I give the day that is now past to you.  It is yours.  I give the day that is to come to you; help me to see where you are working and to join you there.  Speak to me during these moments.  I commit them and myself to you.”

 II. Prayer of Confession:

“Lord, you are faithful to forgive me and cleanse me of my sin when I confess it to you.  I confess my sin(s) of ______________.  Thank you for forgiveness.” (1 John 1:9)

III. Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Choose to be thankful, speak out loud of what God has done.
“Thank you, Father, for _________________.  Fill my heart and my mouth with gratitude throughout this day.”

IV. Scripture Reflection

Read: Proverbs Chapter 15

Reflect:

Proverbs 15:30

30 Bright eyes cheer the heart;
good news strengthens the bones.

Often, when I’m talking with young guys, I will encourage them to have what I like to call a “yes” face. A “yes” face simply means to be inviting, warm, and friendly. For example, imagine walking into a room filled with a lot of people you don’t know. As you scan the room, you see people with scowls on their faces or maybe even a frown. Whether they mean it or not, what’s communicated to you is, “Don’t say anything to me.” As you continue looking around the room, you see one who genuinely looks like a nice person, who seems to be approachable and relatable. It doesn’t take long before you find yourself engaging in a conversation with them. Why? I’d venture to say it’s because they had a “yes” face! Our countenance—the expressions we use—communicate our mood, emotion, and even our character. In my mind, “bright eyes cheer the heart” is another way of what happens with a “yes” face!

My point is this: A positive person’s countenance is helpful and uplifting. And when you combine a joyful face with good news (verbal communication), it’s a powerful force that even contributes to the physical well-being of others. A cheerful countenance is infectious, and it can cheer the heart of everyone we meet.

As followers of Christ, we can never forget the great joy that is found in the Gospel. God fills us with all joy and peace as we trust Him and allow our hearts to overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our joy is made complete in Christ. It is the Lord Jesus who fills our hearts with joy. (See Luke 2:10; Romans 15:13; John 15:11)

Respond:

So, let me ask you a question. How would people describe your countenance? Will you put on a “yes” face? Determine to be a person with “bright eyes that cheer the heart.” “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” (Romans 15:13 NIV)

V. Prayer for others:

Pray specifically for the concerns of your life and the lives of others.

VI. Prayer of commitment:

Lord God, I commit to love you with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind and to love my neighbor as myself.  Empower me today to love you and others with everything that I am.”  (Luke 10:27)

This Week’s Scripture Memory:
Proverbs 20:22

Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.
