By July 11, 2020Daily Devotional

I. Prayer to enter the Lord’s presence:

Be still for a moment. “Lord, I give the day that is now past to you.  It is yours.  I give the day that is to come to you; help me to see where you are working and to join you there.  Speak to me during these moments.  I commit them and myself to you.”

 II. Prayer of Confession:

“Lord, you are faithful to forgive me and cleanse me of my sin when I confess it to you.  I confess my sin(s) of ______________.  Thank you for forgiveness.” (1 John 1:9)

III. Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Choose to be thankful, speak out loud of what God has done.
“Thank you, Father, for _________________.  Fill my heart and my mouth with gratitude throughout this day.”

IV. Scripture Reflection

Read: Proverbs Chapter 11

Reflect:

Proverbs 11:16
16 A kindhearted woman gains honor,
but ruthless men gain only wealth.

Who do you respect? Think of a person you admire, a person you wouldn’t hesitate to honor or celebrate. What are the traits that make them worthy of praise? I bet words like affectionate, gentle, good-willed, gracious, friendly, thoughtful, honest, hospitable, charitable, and decent come to mind. These are synonyms for kindness.

I’d venture to say if you made a list of all the things you admire about this person, their wealth, position, or title would appear way down on the list (if at all). Wealth is inferior to the honor gained through kindheartedness.

Kindness is a character trait of God and it’s a fruit of the Spirit. (see Galatians 5:22-23) In God’s kindness, He saved us, not because of the work we’ve done but because of His mercy. (see Titus 3:4-5) His kindness is meant to lead us to repentance. (Romans 2:4)

Gotquestions.org has an excellent article on God’s kindness. It says that kindness is what leads God to give us green pastures, quiet waters, and restoration for our soul. It’s God’s kindness that makes Him want to gather us under His wings and protect us and keep us close to Him. Kindness induced Jesus to stop what He was doing and help others in need. Kindness is what leads the Good Shepherd to rescue us when we stray.

When we exhibit kindness towards others, we’re expressing the love of God. Being kindhearted transforms everything we do and seasons everything with God’s grace.

Respond:

Kindness is valued, it changes everything. Pray that you would bear the fruit of the Spirit, and you would become more like Christ.

V. Prayer for others:

Pray specifically for the concerns of your life and the lives of others.

VI. Prayer of commitment:

Lord God, I commit to love you with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind and to love my neighbor as myself.  Empower me today to love you and others with everything that I am.”  (Luke 10:27)

This Week’s Scripture Memory:
Proverbs 26:27

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.
