Proverbs – Week 14 Study Guide

JESUS, THE MANIFESTATION OF WISDOM

This month we will look at Jesus and wisdom…to understand what it means to “be wise” we must understand that Jesus the Messiah is the wisdom of God.

Discussion 1: A decision to enter into relationship with wisdom is a decision to enter into relationship with Christ.

Read the following verses:

  • “God made Christ to be wisdom itself.”
    1 Corinthians 1:30
  • “In Christ lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
    Colossians 2:3
  • Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.
    Colossians 1

Q1: What do these verses tell us about the connection between Jesus and wisdom?

Q2: How do they shed light on how we read and apply the book of Proverbs…and how we live our lives?

Q3: How do they speak to us about who or what we place are trust in?

Q4: How do they strengthen, encourage, and comfort us in uncertain times?

Discussion 2: Terry concluded with one of his favorite gospel stories that he has long found encouraging during times when he feels pressed and stressed. Read the Passage and then discuss some personal applications you can make from the passage. Pay attention to the fathers prayer, how can it give you comfort in times like these?

Mark 9:17-26

When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

Application: If your feeling “breaky not bouncy” know that you can do what faith does regardless of what you feel right now. You can pray, “Lord I Believe, help my unbelief.”
