Reflect

Proverbs 24:3-4

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

No one starts out to build a house without a plan—that would be foolish. There is a lot that goes into building a house—it takes effort. It doesn’t just happen. There’s an order to the whole process, you don’t start with the roof first and then move to the foundation. You need a skilled person to understand how it all fits together, someone knowledgeable in the process. In the end, the house – through wisdom, understanding, and knowledge—will be more than some random construction materials assembled together. It will be a home filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

The same is true of our lives. Wisdom—godly wisdom—is more important than anything else the world would have us chase after. How much better it would be for us to be lifelong pursuers of wisdom. You see, wisdom provides a strategy for us to employ understanding and knowledge in a way that creates rare and beautiful treasures. Wisdom implies that we have the ability to say the right thing and act the right way to build up families and community and not destroy them. Lives lived like this are indeed rare, yet that is what makes them shine.

Respond:

By wisdom a house is built. “House” symbolizes the life of an individual, your character, and your family. What are you using to build your “House”? Choose to build with godly wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Choose to build your life upon Christ—the firm foundation! (Matt. 7:24-27) Such a “house” will be filled with treasures—the good and valuable things of life.

V. Prayer for others:

Pray specifically for the concerns of your life and the lives of others.

VI. Prayer of commitment:

Lord God, I commit to love you with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my strength and with all my mind and to love my neighbor as myself.  Empower me today to love you and others with everything that I am.”  (Luke 10:27)
