Day 5 Heart Attitudes Devotional

By September 22, 2017Daily Devotional

Pray:

Ask God to orient or reorient you to Himself. Confess any known sin. Thank Him for His forgiveness. Be still and reflect on Jesus and His sacrifice for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind to God’s Word. Pray for others in your life that they, too, would know and love God today.

Heart Attitude: Maintain Clear Relationships

Hebrews 3:12-13,

“12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

1 John 1:9,

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Understand:

Yesterday we looked at the powerful impact of our words. They can encourage and at the same time tear down. With our words, we’re able to live an open and honest life.

But there is one catch: it is inevitable that we will—at times—sin against one another. We should not be surprised when we sin against another person or when another person sins against us. God is not surprised when we sin against one another. However, when we do sin against one another, it is important to make it right. God has given us direction about how to handle it when we sin against on another—it’s called confession. When we mess up, we need to “fess up.”

Apply:

Today, let’s you and I ask God to show us any way we may have sinned. Maybe we need to make it right with another person. Let’s confess it and do what we need to. The quicker we can do that, the better things will be.

*From what you have just read and considered: What is a personal implication/application for your life today?

Live:

(Personalize this prayer today; make it specific to the circumstances that face you.)
Ask God to lead you through His Spirit as you go through your day. Ask Him to bring to mind the truth of the gospel and its implications for what you will encounter today. Tell Him “Yes” to His will and ask Him for His power and protection to live this “yes.” Ask God to create and reveal opportunities to proclaim the good news today. KEEP PRAYING THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY.
