Day 5 1 Peter 2:6 Devotional

By November 4, 2016Daily Devotional

Pray:

Ask God to orient or reorient you to Himself. Confess any known sin. Thank Him for His forgiveness. Be still and reflect on Jesus and His sacrifice for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind to God’s Word. Pray for others in your life that they, too, would know and love God today.

Read:

1 Peter 2:6

“For in Scripture it says: ‘See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.’”

Understand:

A good cornerstone is crucial to building a proper foundation. Everything that is done in the construction of the building is based on this stone. Peter refers to Christ as the “cornerstone.” The idea of Christ’s role as the cornerstone was foretold in Isaiah 28:16. Peter wants us to know that God has determined that Christ will have a unique position. A chosen and precious stone, He is completely dependable. No one who trusts in Him will ever be disappointed. Christ is our cornerstone.

We need to know that we will sometimes be put to shame or face disappointment in life, but our trust in God is never misplaced. Jesus will not let you down. We’re safe to put our trust and confidence in Him because the eternal life He has promised is certain.

Apply:

He is our foundation; build your life on Him. No matter what emotion you may feel, know that the truth of the Gospel is to be your foundation—your firm foundation! We can’t help the feelings we have at times; it’s a part of being human. What we can do, is not let our emotions direct us and set our course in life. Operating on emotions is like trying to hit a moving target… it is difficult! Instead, we’re to look to the Gospel as a fixed reference point to operate from. It doesn’t mean that life will all of a sudden become easy, but you can be assured that everything you do and every situation you find yourself in has purpose and is built on a firm foundation.

Would you determine today to have Christ as your cornerstone? Would you commit to operating on a firm foundation?

Live:

(Personalize this prayer today; make it specific to the circumstances that face you.) Ask God to lead you through His Spirit as you go through your day. Ask Him to bring to mind the truth of the gospel and its implications for what you will encounter today. Tell Him “Yes” to His will and ask Him for His power and protection to live this “yes.” Ask God to create and reveal opportunities to proclaim the good news today. KEEP PRAYING THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY.
