Day 5 Psalm 77 Devotional

By October 28, 2016Daily Devotional

Pray:

Ask God to orient or reorient you to Himself. Confess any known sin. Thank Him for His forgiveness. Be still and reflect on Jesus and His sacrifice for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your heart and mind to God’s Word. Pray for others in your life that they, too, would know and love God today.

Read:

Psalm 77:13-20

“16 The waters saw You, God, the waters saw You and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. 17 The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth. 18 Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, Your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. 19 Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, though Your footprints were not seen. 20 You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.”

Understand:

The psalmist is moved with a deep sense of awe at the greatness and power of God. He is remembering how God led His people through the Red Sea, even though His presence was not visible to them. He wants us to know that God’s power is real! His footsteps may not be literally seen in real space and time, but never-the-less they are real to all who look to Him in faith. The Shepherd of Israel is the One who led His flock under the hands of Moses and Aaron.

In the psalmist’s act of remembering, he comes to the rightful conclusion that God is mindful of His people.  His people who He has redeemed for Himself.

Apply:

I don’t know what difficulties you’re up against today, but I do know this: the same Shepherd that led His people is the same Shepherd that leads us today. Jesus is our Shepherd! He is our Hope. Remember the mighty deeds He has done for you. Stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith (Philippians 1:27). Put your hope completely in the grace that will be given to you when Jesus Christ returns.

Live:

(Personalize this prayer today; make it specific to the circumstances that face you.) Ask God to lead you through His Spirit as you go through your day. Ask Him to bring to mind the truth of the gospel and its implications for what you will encounter today. Tell Him “Yes” to His will and ask Him for His power and protection to live this “yes.” Ask God to create and reveal opportunities to proclaim the good news today. KEEP PRAYING THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY.
