Who is the church?
Everyone who believes in the life, teachings and death of Jesus Christ composes the one universal church.
What is the purpose of the church?
The purpose of a local church, like River, is to be the body of Jesus in the world today, to act and live as he would. Our desire is to simply love God and make His love known to others. The church will organize Christians to tell people about Jesus, as well as to provide a place for worship, teaching and the development of gifts and talents for God's service.
Do you have baptism and communion at the River?
We practice baptism and communion, two ceremonies based on Jesus' teachings recorded in the Bible. We believe that communion and baptism are significant activities in the life of the follower of Jesus but are not the means for people to be reconciled to God.
How does River decide on its beliefs?
Scripture is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. This church recognizes that it cannot bind the conscience of individual members in areas where scripture is silent. Rather, each believer is to be led in these areas by the Lord, to whom he or she alone is ultimately responsible. By adhering to God's Word and seeking Him, we can best observe His greatest commandments, which are to love Him and others.
"Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Do not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing but let us encourage one another" Hebrews 10:24,25
